Resident Life
Our residency program attracts compassionate, dedicated and personable individuals.
We enjoy spending time with each other both at work and after hours. We frequently get together for barbecues, trivia, holiday celebrations, a book club and — for the more athletically-inclined — races and intramural volleyball.

Resident Wellness
Residency can be an intense and demanding time. Because quality of life is so important, we strive to foster a supportive environment in which you can maintain a healthful work/life balance. We encourage you to become the best clinician you can be while still finding time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.
Home in Chicago
Northwestern’s location in downtown Chicago is a key advantage of our program. With a metro population of nearly 10 million, the city is the cultural, commercial and industrial center of the Midwest. The city offers a wealth of cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities. Chicago is also significantly more affordable than comparable cities, which results in a higher standard of living for our residents.
Most residents live within walking distance of the hospital in Streeterville, River North or the Loop neighborhoods. However, there are also residents who commute from surrounding neighborhoods as well. Around a quarter of residents come from the Chicagoland area, with the remainder from all over the country.
